Poliçan will receive 24-hour water supply thanks to an investment worth 80 million lek to construct the town’s water supply and delivery network, as well as the reconstruction of the pumping station. No projects on reconstruction of the water supply network had been implemented since the water supply was built for first time back in 1966, causing frequent shortages and discontent among local residents.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Mayor of Poliçan Adriatik Zotaj, visited the site for construction of the water supply system, which will provide supply to around 10 000 residents of Poliçan and the adjacent villages.
Mayor Zotkaj said that construction of the water supply had been one of the main pressing demands from local residents and the water supply problem will be ultimately tackled. “No investments have been carried out since 1966, when the town was constructed along with its water supply system. Thanks to an investment worth 80 million lek, we will ensure 24-hour water supply to over 10 000 residents, ultimately addressing this problem and improving the service quality and minimize the water supply loses. Residents of the adjacent villages along this 10-km segment will be also supplied with potable water. With this investment we put an end to a gangrene and construction of the water supply system has been one of the main demands from local residents in the town of Poliçan,” Zotkaj said.
Other water quality and availability-related problems will be ultimately tackled with the construction of new water supply system. “In addition to the water supply problem, the investment will also address the water management issues. We are building a pumping station to replace the old pumps of the sixties with new high-tech pumps. The project also includes an automatic water chlorination system, which improves the water quality, and installation of water meters at reservoirs in order to ease management,” the Deputy Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Hantin Bonati explained.
