Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The ambitious project to revitalize Tirana’s iconic pyramid building and transform it into the region’s largest digital technology center is increasingly taking its final shape.

The centre is designed to host thousands of young people to learn coding, robotics, design and programming, with the support of the Albanian-American Development Fund (AADF).

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Michael Granoff, Chairman of the AADF Board of Trustees, toured the site to see firsthand progress of reconstruction work.

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj provided project details, underlining that construction work is nearing completion in certain parts of the project.  “As far as the space is concerned, we have already planted around 200 fully grown trees like the ones already planted in the main Skanderbeg Square. They are all fully grown and they create the sense and the feeling of space. These are alleys leading to the Prime Minister’s office and the main boulevard and will be in the form of an asterism of a forest. Around 90 percent of the construction work has completed. The project includes the use of slabs of glass that will be inserted between the stairways on the building’s facade to help fill its central atrium with natural light,” Veliaj said.

On his part, PM Rama praised builders for the construction work and asked about specific elements of the project.

The new centre, designed by the Dutch-architecture studio MVRDV, will host thousands of young people to learn coding, robotics, design and programming.
