The mass COVID-19 vaccination program for teachers and the academic staff is underway for several days now. Vaccination of the Tirana University lecturers kicked off with a total of 200 academic staff members set to receive the jab today alone.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastiriliu, attended the process at the Tirana University Corpus today. Health minister said that more than 12.000 teachers across the country have received the anti-coronavirus vaccine to date. “The vaccine rollout for university lecturers is now underway. The process kicked off in the universities of Gjirokaster and Vlora since yeasterday. We are about to start administering the first doses to the lecturers at Tirana and Elbasan universities. A total of 200 academic staff members are set to receive the shot in Tirana today only and the process is underway. More than 12.000 teachers or over 30 % of them have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. More than 48.000 vaccines have been administered to date and the process is in full swing,“ Manastirliu said that the Sputnik V vaccines doses that were delivered by the United Arab Emirates a day ago will be used to vaccinate the seniors over +80 in accordance with the immunisation plan. With the shipment delivered yesterday, we have received a total of 90.000 doses to date. In the meantime, we expect to receive more doses of Pfizer vaccine in early April. We also expect another shipment of AstraZeneca vaccines to be delivered under the COVAX mechanism. We have been informed that the next shipment will contain around 60.000 to 80.000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses. We are about to conclude the negations we have launched so that we can begin the population’s mass immunisation,” Health Minister said.

A total of 48.215 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered since the start of the immunisation process. The vaccines have been administered to 27.872 medical personnel and supporting health staff, 7.932 older adults and 12,411 vaccines to teachers. The vaccination process is being carried out in line with all safety and quality standards with the jabs being administered by a large team of trained vaccinators.
