Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Edi Rama travelled to Kosovo, where the eighth session of the governments of both countries is set to take place in Prishtina on Monday.

PM Rama, accompanied by several members of his cabinet, visited the enterprise M&Sillosi in the village of Xërxë, a leading wheat wholesale and retail supplier in Kosovo, also exporting high quality wheat to other countries in the region and across the world.

The Premier said it was senseless to remove customs tariffs with other countries as part of the Open Balkans initiative and such tariffs being kept in place with Kosovo.

“For us not to limit to the official and political meetings, we thought to also meet with those who are the engine of the economic life. I had been told a lot about this enterprise and I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to visit them. Together with the minister we were talking about ways to boost cooperation and totally remove the customs barriers when it comes to the agricultural products. In the meantime, we also plan to remove all the customs tariffs with Kosovo. We very much hope that a bilateral decision is made on this issue together with Kosovo government, but we will lift the customs tariffs anyway. They have asked for more time to look into this proposal, but we will do so, because it is senseless to remove such tariffs with the Open Balkans and not doing so with Kosovo. Therefore, we will remove the customs tariffs on the goods imported from Kosovo,” PM Rama said.
