Work continues round the clock to relocate all of the families severely affected by the devastating earthquake on November 26, 2019 that destroyed or damaged their homes.

Ismail Xoxi’s family, consisting of five members, is one of them. Although his family members currently live and work abroad, the new house was rebuilt on the pledged schedule as if they were all here. They are beneficiaries of a three-bedroom single-family home with net floor area of 120 square meters, while the floor area of their old house was 82 square meters.

Prime Minister Edi Rama handed over the key to the new house to one of the members of Xoxi, who expressed gratitude for the excellent ongoing work to provide housing for the affected families. “It is an honour to meet you in person and wholeheartedly thank you and the Mayor. Although this is the house of my niece, my house was also damaged, but the central government and local authorities stood by us and every other affected family,” she said.

Another family benefiting a two-bedroom house is that of Mr. Gazmend Banushi, consisting of three members. “This family used to live in a very old house, which was totally destroyed by the earthquake and they have now moved into a new home with a net floor area of 85 square meters,” Shijak Mayor Elton Arbana said.

“We thank you Mr. Prime Minister for this joy you have brought to our family. We lived in very bad conditions and we spend a very tough year,” the family head said as she received the key to the new house from the Prime Minister Rama.

Wishing the family members for their new house, the government head noted that same care has been delivered to all affected families, no matter whether they live here or abroad.  “Prior to coming here, we were visiting the new house of a family whose members live and work abroad. But we didn’t distinguish among the affected families we built homes for everyone. They can return to their new house whenever they want to do so,” the Premier said.
