Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of State for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj, and the Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj today inspected the ongoing works to construct two new school buildings in Albania’s capital. The Premier inspected the construction sites of “Vaçe Zela” and “Kristo Frashëri” schools, which are part of the joint massive programme between the central government and Tirana Municipality to construct as many as 17 new school buildings and educational facilities that will deliver highest standards in Tirana.

The new two schools being built in the neighbourhood of Lapraka, according to Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, will significantly reduce overcrowding in other schools and educational facilities in Lapraka neighbourhood. According to him, more than 5000 families have moved to Lapraka in the past two years alone and therefore the existing schools have been forced to switch to two-shift regime due to their overcrowding.

The new schools’ venues will house educational facilities, sports grounds and green spaces, whereas only one access road will be used to enter and leave the school buildings.

“One of the recommendations made by urban planners given also the most recent situation due to the global pandemic is to build as many school buildings as possible, or more than we actually need, because their classrooms will be smaller, while adding and expanding the green areas so that certain outdoor classes can be also held,” Mayor Veliaj added.
