Work on complete reconstruction of the dormitory No.1 in the student campus in the south-eastern city of Korça, a project that is designed to profoundly improve the accommodation conditions for some 160 students housed in this building under the government’s Pact on the University that is seeing a series of projects to upgrade the university infrastructure in Tirana’s Student City and every other student campus all over the country. The building will undergo full reconstruction of the interior spaces, including rooms, the plumbing system, toilets, the central heating system, as well as the façade upgrading and exterior remodelling.
Prime Minister Edi Rama – accompanied by the Director of the Albanian Development Fund, Dritan Agolli, the Mayor of Korça, Sotiraq Filo, and Socialist lawmaker Niko Peleshi – inspected the start of the restoration works.
The head of Albanian Development Fund Dritan Agolli voiced confidence that with the project complete a higher number of university students will opt to accommodate in this dormitory. “The building has 76 rooms that will undergo reconstruction to accommodate two students in each room. With the building’s rehabilitation and establishment of a new standard we expect a growing number of students who choose to accommodate in public dormitories as they offer affordable low accommodation costs to students,” Agolli said.
The dormitory building No.1 is part of the student city equipped with a university library and sports grounds and facilities. “The investment will revitalize the student campus in Korça,” MP Peleshi said.
According to Peleshi, while students are away on vacation, the entire student campus can be made available to sports teams that choose Korça for their training during the preparatory phase.
