Local inhabitants and farmers in the Myzeqe field, the largest and most important agricultural field in Albania, will no longer face movement and transportation problems between the villages in the area, renowned for its hardworking people and abundant agricultural products.

The reconstruction of all rural access roads to the Myzeqe field in Lushnja has completed to significantly ease the movement of people and locally grown produce in this area, which has been remarkable for the transformation of agriculture and growth of exports in the past seven years.

Prime Minister Edi Rama today visited Lushnja, where he inspected a number of the rural access roads that meet best European standards for road infrastructure.

PM Rama and the Deputy Prime Minister Erion Braçe, also a parliament member representing the area, walked along several newly-constructed roads in the area.

“We are now in Qerret, located at the intersection of the Agricultural Ring Road, which we visited when work kicked off to construct the Agricultural Ring Road project. This segment leads to the village of Kadiaj and it gives accesses to the highway linking Lushnje and Fier. Everything is has been built from scratch, from the water pipes and sewers to street lighting and sidewalks. In the meantime, courtyard walls have been unified. It is a model the Albanian Development Fund is applying recently and this is one of the first villages to benefit this model,” the Deputy Prime Minister Braçe, who added that all rural roads in villages in Lushnja’s lowland area have been asphalted.

In the meantime, construction of 24 more roads are planned to be constructed in the hilly area stretching from Dushk to Fier and Shegan.

Prime Minister Edi Rama met with a group of local residents, who expressed gratitude for the new roads that have significantly improved their livelihoods and affirmed that construction of road infrastructure has improved their access to the markets and significantly reduced the transport costs.

“We have been walking in the mud for over 30 years,” a local resident said.

“We wholeheartedly thank you for these new roads you have built for us. We have been always using boots because of the mud here in Myzeqe,” another resident added.

The locally grown produce meet the domestic market demand and are exported.
