A series of investment projects on construction of water supply systems are underway across the country in a bid to deliver on the objective to ensure 24-hour water supply to residents in urban centres within 2022. Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Berat Mayor Ervin Demo, stopped by Orizaj village, Berat, to inspect the ongoing work on construction of the new water supply system designed to provide constant potable water supply to around 7500 inhabitants. “This is one of the most important investment projects we have planned for construction of water networks. The project will affect 7500 residents. Same project will affect the informal dwellings on the city’s hills. By 2022, we expect to ensure 24-hour water supply to residents in the urban area, but also in the administrative rural areas,” Mayor Demo said.

Over 120 water supply projects have been launched across the country and the ambitious objective to ensure 24-hour water supply is increasingly becoming a reality.

“Of course, it would have been great if such things were to be done much earlier, but between saying and doing there is half a sea and we have actually launched a major programme designed to provide drinkable water to residents across the country. We inherited most scandalous situation in the world when we took office, but we can now openly state that more than 120 construction sites have been already launched all over the country and they haven’t been launched now just ahead of the next month’s election, but two years, 18 months or a year ago and they are all ongoing projects and with the massive funding provided by the state budget and the international donors we will make sure that residents in all urban centres throughout the country receive 24-hour water supply. Some of these urban centres already receive 24-hour supply, others will receive it in September, others in January 2022 and all these centres will have constant supplies within 2022. So, the water supply will no longer be an issue up for discussion in Albania,” PM Rama said.
