The urban transformation of the museum city of Berat continues under a series of projects, with some of them already complete and several others still underway and at various stages of works on the ground.

Construction of Berat’s new ring road has already completed, delivering on another important project with an incredibly positive impact both on functional and tourist aspects.

The 4.1-km long segment, with a stretch of 3 kilometres built from scratch, is one of the most important investment projects that have completely changed the city’s fabric, significantly easing the road traffic, providing access for local residents, as well as by significantly cutting drive time to other towns of Çorovoda and Poliçan.

Prime Minister Edi Rama toured Berat on Tuesday to see firsthand the newly-constructed road, which is expected to directly affect and improve the quality of life for local residents, making the area more accessible for the ever growing number of tourists visiting Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

“Construction of the ring road bypassing the city of Berat has already completed. The new road has already delivered an important impact, not only in terms of easing the traffic which is now fully manageable, as it already showed in August that marks the peak of tourist season, as well as the annual pilgrimage in Tomor mount. With the new bypass opened, the traffic was easily manageable compared to the situation we have been encountering previously during this time of the year. The road’s positive effect on this area, I would call an urbanized one, in terms of its elements themselves, the new 4-km long road also offers a pedestrian lane for residents and visitors to walk or run. Local residents in the area of Uznove are already making use of this road to engage in walking and running. The landscape of the area along the Osum river bank also creates a very positive atmosphere,” Berat Mayor said.

“The 4-km long road meets all the urban road standards with sidewalks on both sides, a bike-dedicated lane and lighting,” Berat Mayor Ervin Demo went on explaining.
