The new Berat bypass road project would allow the heavy vehicles bypass the museum city, help the city to breathe once again. breath free from the congested traffic, and it will open a new space of integrated urban and rural development.

“It is a road that that residents have long wished for,” the Mayor of Berat Ervin Demo said.

“The new road is a dream come true for many residents for the fact that many of them have never set a foot in it, because it has been inaccessible,” Demo added.

Although the today’s rainy weather doesn’t allow for anyone to take a look around the amazing landscape and enjoy the stunning view along the road, local residents know best that the landscape of Tomorri Mountain is magical in this area. “The 4.2 km bypass road will also feature sideways, road lighting system, and a bike-dedicated lane. It is a little explored area, where Berat citizens, most likely, haven’t set foot in, because it has been inaccessible to this day. The city’s castle is situated on the other side. The new road will serve not only local residents, but also inhabitants in the municipalities of Poliçan and Çorovodë. The road will cut the drive time by at least 20 minutes,” Berat Mayor said.

“Heavy trucks used to drive through the city’s centre. The new road will divert traffic away from the city’s centre and its historic site,” the Head of the Albanian Development Fund Dritan Agolli said, adding that the bypass road will help the city in terms of the tourism offer.

The government head agreed, underlining that “the new road will give the city a fresh development dimension and, most importantly, it will divert traffic of heavy vehicles away of the city.”

The Premier noted that with such development projects, the country has finally put an end to the poorly designed, short-term and non-strategic construction projects. “A lot of things already being done today seem to have been long delayed, since they all should have been done 30 or 40 years ago. We are doing utmost efforts to support you gradually. A lot of things being accomplished today seem to be long delayed, since they should have been done 30 or 40 years ago. But we are not to be blamed for this. Public investments were not thought strategically by the previous administrations, but as a way to gain electoral support of voters.”
