The long-awaited new bypass road in the south-western city of Fier has finally fully opened to the citizens, with the dual carriageway now 100% open to the traffic following the completion of work to construct the entire related infrastructure along the road’s entire stretch. Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, and the Mayor of Fier, Armando Subashi, inspected the bypass road entrance, now fully and freely accessible to the citizens.

The 22-km dual carriageway Fier bypass, a category “B-Class” extra-urban highway for a speed limit ranging to 120 km per hour, will be surveyed by radar traffic metering and speed cameras to monitor enforcement of speed limits by drivers.

“The total length of this dual carriageway bypass road is 22 kilometres. Each carriageway has two lanes. It is a road treated up to its details in compliance with the demands from the local government authorities. We have also sought to address a series of other floor-related problems by installing 104 104 concrete drainage pipes, respecting at the same time the environment by planting trees alongside the two roadsides. Three bridges are built along the road’s stretch, namely in Pojan, Seman and Hoxhare, four two-storey road junctions and, of course, 21 underpasses and seven overpasses,” the Minister of Infrastructure said.

With the completion of the Fier bypass, the work will go on to construct the road to Apolonia archaeological park and the entrance road to the city of Fie, about which the Infrastructure Minister Balluku said: “The entrance road project has been revised, because the road has been expanded to provide a better access to the city and it is supposed to provide access to the bypass road too.”

Another major project for the construction of which the work is progressing rapidly is the Vlora bypass road project, with the Minister Balluku saying that construction work has progress very well. “The pavement process along a significant part of the road is set to begin starting this week. Construction of the works of structural art has also progressed rapidly and both Fier and Vlora bypass projects are being fully complemented with all their infrastructural and structural elements. On Friday we will launch the tender for the construction of the Llogara tunnel and the tender for the most part of the Adriatic-Ionian highway corridor will be opened in the coming days.

Prime Minister Edi Rama described 120-km road part of the Adriatic-Ionian highway as a major gigantic project. “It would be really fantastic when the entire highway is complemented with the Thumane- Rrogozhine motorway,” the Premier said.

The Milot – Thumane – Rrogozhine – Fier highway network, which will be linked with the Fier bypass road, will dramatically transform road infrastructure of tourist Albania.
