A string of important infrastructure projects are already underway in the southern Albanian district of Fier, with investments mainly including construction of local roads and bridges connecting important segments and villages with the coastal areas. The state budget-funded investments include the project on construction of a long bridge along the Fier-Seman road linking the beach of Seman with Darzeza and providing tourists with access to both coastal areas simultaneously.

Prime Minister Edi Rama visited Fier to closely inspect a series of important investments in the infrastructure of the rural areas and villages. The new bridge is being built along Seman-Fier national road right on the intersection of Seman and Darzeza villages.

“We are currently working on construction of the grand road. This is a section of the road project connecting Seman and Fier, a project we have announced two years ago, but which unfortunately was temporarily suspended and postponed because of the earthquake and the pandemic.  However, I would like to thank you because the opportunity was created to allow construction of this big bridge, which will hopefully complete in the next three or four months and therefore we take another firm step towards progressing with the project,” Fier Mayor Armando Subashi said, adding that the bridge is being constructed on the intersection between the roads leading to Seman and Darezeze, two important beach destinations in Fier, stretching from Karavasta to Vjosa estuary.

“So I believe the start of that project through this bridge, is the first and very important step towards that strategy we have set up for the development of the coastal area that has yet to be explored. This provides us the opportunity to do the right thing regarding a master-plan on development of this coastline. We are on right path regarding this project that is being funded by the government through the Albanian Development Fund,” Subashi said.

PM Rama noted that the coastal area will take a completely different dimension thanks to the ongoing investment projects. “The project is designed for the visitors to gain access to the stunning beach destinations in the area,” he said.

Meanwhile, another project has been completed, the Darzeza Bridge with all the necessary parameters. The old and dilapidated structure of the bridge built before the ’90s, often dangerous for passengers and vehicles, has to be replaced with a new construction.

The new bridge, which connects Darzeza village with the city of Fier, meets the parameters of urban, industrial and commercial development of the area, significantly easing the movement of people and goods.
