Another modern investment becomes part of the health care system adding to a wide range of recent projects designed to significantly improve quality of health care services to citizens, as well as provide modern amenities and working conditions for health professionals. New maternity hospital in Lezhe, a newly-built complex equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and devices and designed to serve Lezhe municipality and surrounding towns, a long-awaited facility for local community in the past 30 years. The 80-bed maternity hospital has been built in line with highest standards to ensure the delivery and newborn care services. 

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu, toured the premises of the new maternity complex designed to meet contemporary standards and conditions. Health Minister noted that this is the third maternity hospital in addition to the new maternity complexes in Saranda and Korça, to be fully rebuilt, while construction of a maternity hospital is scheduled to complete within this year. In the meantime, work is also underway to reconstruct and rehabilitate the Queen Geraldine University Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Tirana and the maternity hospital in the north-eastern town of Kukes.

In addition to the modernization of health infrastructure, creation of optimal working conditions, governments also plans a new salary hike for medical personnel. “All health professionals will also benefit a 40% salary increase,” Prime Minister Rama said.

Strengthening the regional hospital capacities, including construction of the new maternity complex, aims at creating conditions for complete treatment of patients, according to the best standards of medical practice.
