Prime Minister Edi Rama received Friday evening Chief of the General Staff Major General Bajram Begaj, the candidate proposed by the parliamentary majority earlier on the day to be voted as Albania’s new President of the Republic.
During the briefing meeting at the Prime Minister’s office, the government head Rama expressed the highest consideration for his candidacy that was endorsed as the most suitable candidate to be elected to this important position for the country. “The current system is as such and it doesn’t allow for a process for the potential candidates to be revealed earlier, and therefore a discussion took place within the Socialist Party today, one of the best discussions I ever recall to sort out among so many candidates, and we picked you as the right candidate required to normalize and re-civilize the institution of the President of the Republic. I would like to thank you for not refusing, but accepting the nomination and we will be honoured to vote for you and elect you as the President of the Republic,” PM Rama said.
On his part, the candidate for the post of the President of the Republic of Albania, General Bajram Begaj voiced readiness for cooperation and conduct the duty with honour.“Thank you Mr. Prime Minister! It is a great honour to serve as the President of the country. I will always try to be the right person for what the post represents and serve in this post with a strong sense of responsibility. I will live up to the expectations for serving in this post. I have been holding important positions within the army and in the field of medicine, two very good and dedicated professions. I would be very much happy to serve in the post of the country’s president, if Parliament backs my candidacy,” Begaj said.
“We are confident you will live up to this high position, because I have been given the opportunity to praise your work as the Chief of the General Staff. I didn’t know you earlier, but all those who took the floor at the SP meeting, praised you as a respected individual and voiced confidence you would do the right thing while serving in the President’s office. I would like to congratulate you and hope you will demonstrate same loyalty to the state, the same respect you always demonstrate for the law and the very strong power of humanism characterizing all the Armed Forces and definitely you as the Chief of the General Staff, sufficient qualities to make us believe you would very soon live up to the post and personify the symbolism of the national unity which is at the very ADN of the Armed Forces,” PM Rama said.
