The agricultural lands of farmers in the village of Mbrakull, Poliçan Municipality, have been planted for first time with grain and corn crops and various seasonal vegetables after being left barren and uncultivated for around 30 years. A new irrigation canal has been built after three decades for some 230 farmer households in the area thanks to a state budget funding of 30 million lek. Thanks to this investment the irrigated crop area in the village of Mbrakull will be over 100 hectares.
Local villagers say the investment has changed their lives and perspective of agriculture in the village.
“An investment lacking for over 30 years. All these fields and agricultural lands were dry and unirrigated to date. Today, the new irrigation canal will irrigate agricultural lands of around 230 farmers. For 30 years, these green lands have been completely dry. This has forced many families from Mbrakull village to immigrate, «Mayor of Poliçan Adratik Zotkaj said.
Local residents, who used to abandon the village, are now coming back to rebuild their lives which are inextricably linked to the agricultural land. This is confirmed by a local resident who has been living and working in Greece for 26 years and is now thinking to return home. “Looking at these investments, the irrigation systems, we have decided to return home one day and this is the reason I am building the new house,” he said.
The Mayor of Poliçan Adratik Zotkaj also said that another investment is being carried out at the village’s centre as part of the Rural Renaissance Program, following that of Urban Renaissance.
