Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Work is intensely underway to construct individual homes of the families affected by the powerful earthquake of Nov 26 last year in the Municipality of Kavaje. The goal is to make sure that all quake-affected families celebrate the New Year’s Eve in their new homes that offer better living space and conditions than their dwellings prior to the Nov 26 natural disaster.

The Minister of State for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj today visited the Golem Hill area where a new family home is being built for Adem, who became homeless as his old house built back in 1966 collapsed due to the devastating earthquake. A total of 19 individual private homes are set to be built in this area, whereas 140 new houses are projected to be constructed for the quake-affected households in the municipality of Kavaje.

“The terrains where construction work takes place are not all the same. This is extremely difficult terrain and yet the work is progressing rapidly.  In six weeks’ time, Adem and his family will be moving into their new home by the end of this year, as we have promised to over 3400 affected families. A large part of the families that have lost their homes due to the last year’s devastating earthquake will be moving and will be celebrating the New Year’s Eve in their new houses,”Ahmetaj pledged.

The work for the reconstruction of individual dwellings has also started in other administrative units of Kavaje Municipality, namely in Luz, Helmas, Synej and in the town of Kavaja, while the work to reconstruct infrastructures in the two new development zones, Kavaja and Golem, goes on at a fast pace. Ahmetaj also added that work to construct apartment buildings is set to start immediately at the end of September – beginning of October in all quake-affected areas.

The Minister of State for Reconstruction has recently inspected ongoing construction works in Xhafzotaj, Shijak, Maminas, Kodër Kashar, Baldushk and in every other village or town worst hit by the devastating earthquake of Nov 26 last year to make sure that work completes on time and with the right quality.
