From a huge garbage dumpsite turned into a recreational park and sports ground that is attractive to local residents and young people in the town of Librazhd. A recreational area adds to the town’s centre as part of its urban transformation project, designed to give more breath to public life.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, together with MP Taulant Balla, who represents the central district of Elbasan, inspected first-hand the newest project launched by the Municipality of Librazhd to construct a multifunctional park at the same area that used to serve as a garbage dumpsite along the river, which flooded the entire area every time it burst its banks.
“It used to be a frightening garbage dumpsite. It was horrible. The river embankment has been constructed now, creating this whole space that will be transformed into a city park,” PM Rama said. “This would have been completely taken away by Shkumbin River if no river embankment was to be built,” MP Taulant Balla added.
The Mayor of Librazhd Kastriot Gurra said that the new recreational park will feature every required element. “During the project’s first phase, football, basketball and volleyball pitches will be constructed with support from the governments of Austria and Switzerland. Meanwhile, the Municipality of Librazhd will provide funding to support second stage of the project to transform the area into a green public park. The project will then expand to rehabilitate whole this new created space,” Librazhd Mayor Kastriot Gurra said.
