Bashkim Sefa’s family në Kukes, for years living in a two-room ruined house, will celebrate the New Year’s eve in a newly-built home from scratch. Bashkim and his spouse Valdete couldn’t afford the basic repair and maintenance work for the house they were living in along with their six children, because they are both jobless and currently being treated under the social welfare programme.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, together with the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu, visited the family and listened to their troubles.
“This is an unexpected surprise for me. This is the first time in my lifetime,” Bashkim said.
“Rain and everything fall down through our house roof,” Valdete said while describing their house.
“The objective is that you celebrate New Year in a completely new house. The house should be built from scratch, because no repairs can be done if we want to build a true home. Children should be provided the opportunity to lead a normal life and learn,” PM Rama pledged.
The Premier also pledged to explore job placement opportunities for the family head through the assistance of regional Employment Service office as a new package of major investments in Kukes will boost growth and jobs in the area. “We will address this matter. I think it is fully possible for you to initially find a job to support the family. With the launch of a series of major projects, including the new stadium and Kukes airport, it will be much easier as more job opportunities will be created for the local population,” the Premier said.
Sefa family is expecting another child next summer. “Under the new government programme due to enter into force from January 1, the child will also bring baby cash gift home,” the Premier said, pledging to Brisilda, the family’s oldest child and a fourth grader, that he will return to their family to inaugurate together the new house.
