Works are continuing along Durrës’ seafront promenade in parallel with the widening of the new sandy strip, with the aim of creating a new green and leisure area between the promenade and the beach. The project seeks to transform this space into a multifunctional environment, where cultural, sports and recreational activities will be held for residents and visitors.
During the site visit, Prime Minister Edi Rama, the Mayor of Durrës Emiriana Sako, and the Director of the Albanian Development Fund Dritan Agolli were present, monitoring progress and reviewing the project’s technical details.
“The investment has started simultaneously, both from the far end near Kavalishenca and from the beginning of the segment. Two different companies are working on site. So far, the beach nourishment has extended about 75 metres out from the promenade line. This was the period when we reviewed the materials together with the designer, to confirm whether they meet the project specifications,” the Mayor of Durrës said.
The intervention area covers a length of approximately 2.1 kilometres, from the track area to the end of the planned segment. The new shoreline is being built in line with the approved design, creating the required slope for the beach area. The distance from the promenade to the new shoreline reaches up to 100 metres, while the sand fill varies between 30 and 50 metres.
“We are in the final stage of contracting for the new project, which will widen the promenade and create a range of public facilities and services, including playgrounds and sports areas, turning the Durrës promenade into one of the most beautiful promenades,” said Dritan Agolli, Director of the Albanian Development Fund.
The project also provides for the planting of a large number of trees and the creation of a green belt between the promenade and the beach, significantly improving the quality of public space and enhancing the experience for residents and tourists.
“It will now become extraordinary. First, there will be a fantastic sandy surface. Then, with all the new interventions and the trees that will be planted, a very beautiful green belt will be created,” Prime Minister Rama stressed.
The final objective of the project is to create a “green island” between the promenade and the sandy strip, where sports, cultural, and festive activities can take place, providing more space and services for the community and visitors to the coastal city.
