Albanian Government Council of Ministers

New Lalm in Lezhe is one of the new residential neighbourhoods in the ‘90s and left in limbo and as gangrenes for the local residents isolated under the trap of a completely non-functional infrastructure. Today, such a gloomy panorama is a thing of the past now, the Mayor of Lezhe Pjerin Ndreu said as he accompanied Prime Minister during a visit to the area, where work is in full swing under a government-funded urban requalification project, which includes also construction of the new road leading to this residential complex and providing link to the rest of the city of Lezhe.

“It has been one of the areas in a state of oblivion, but which has been a regular election campaign promise. The streets within the neighbourhood have been already constructed, including sidewalks, the lighting system and sewerage network. A project is currently being designed to rehabilitate the canal and integrate it with the road. Quality work is in full steam ahead. It was like a war-torn area, a scandalous road and it has been like gangrene for the whole area. The entire neighbourhood has now been rehabilitated,” Mayor Ndreu said.

The road’s impact and the citizens’ expectations are really high. “We would like to thank you for the work you have done! The area has been lacking a road for around 30 years. We have been constantly told lies,” a local resident said.

Mayor Ndreu also informed that structural reinforcement and rehabilitation of interior and exterior areas of 72 apartment buildings have been included in a special project designed to transform the entire neighbourhood.

“Gurra” neighbourhood is another area that has been fully rehabilitated recently. “We have also intervened in Gurrat neighbourhood, which had been historically left in a state of oblivion. The illegal constructions have been demolished. For the first time we have implemented a requalification project and extraordinary work has been actually done,” Mayor Ndreu said.
