Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Edi Rama attended today the inauguration of the center of the Municipality of Selenice, a reconstruction worth 59 million ALL, funded by the Albanian Government through the Albanian Development Fund as part of the “Renaissance Cities”.

“I believe that this first work we did together with the Municipality of Selenice for the transformation of Selenice center is a good and important step to show that not only the 20 year abandoning of Selenice is over, but this is just the beginning”- the Prime Minister addressed to residents.

The segment that connects the city gates with the center and the road that connects Selenice with Vlora are two other important projects that the Prime Minister promised for this city.

“We talked with the mayor and will immediately start working on the project that connects the center with the city gates, so that the entrance road will be the same as the center. Of course, later we will need to do the road that connects Selenice with Vlora, because it is a road you are forced to travel often, but it is enough to travel once in order to understand whether you have any kidney broken. We think for much more. This place with great mineral asset should be transformed into a place where not unemployment, but employment must prevail”- the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, MPs, the Mayor of Vlora, Mayor of Selenice Ferdinand Aligjoni

While in Selenice, the Prime Minister reiterated once again the importance of the operation against illegal benefit of electricity and payment of arrears for the energy consumed.

“I do not know how you are doing with energy bills. How is it going? There is one thing I want to share with you: the sooner we take Albania and our economy out from the pit of the endless huge debts that have become a rope on the neck of our people, because of the massive waste of energy, the sooner will we able to have available a lot more funds to invest in infrastructure, schools, hospitals and other services. Imagine only this: if everybody paid energy as pensioners do, they are the weakest but the most regular payers of energy, we would have the opportunity to build 100 kilometers of more national roads every year. If everybody paid for energy as the disabled, paraplegic and tetraplegic do, they are the most vulnerable and yet 93% of them respect the energy contract, then we would have the opportunity to build 150 new schools with European standards within 1 year.”

Calling it a battle for the future, the Prime Minister stressed that putting an end to theft means more schools for children, more cares for people in need, more investments in the health system.

“The battle against power thieves is the battle for all these children who need better kindergartens and schools. It’s the battle for all grandmothers and grandfathers who are here in this square, who never thought of stealing energy and who pay it correctly. It is the battle of all those who want to raise their children in the country, not as up to date, but having the assurance that their children have a future here. It’s the battle of Albania we want with Albania we inherited by Lala Gjoni. Lala Gjoni used to say, steal as much as possible, conquer and build wherever you can, and kept distributing economic assistance with party membership cards.”

The City Center of Selenice has been reconstructed with a funding of 59 million ALL by the Albanian Government. The fountain in the middle of town, the rehabilitation of the central square, garden lighting, etc., are investments that already ready for citizens of Selenice.

In this ceremony, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister, members and leaders of the district.
