Rehabilitation of the third section of Elbasan–Banje road has completed, granting accessibility to local residents, as well as the visitors to the area who are now provided an upgraded infrastructure, which will significantly ease access to the area. Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure Belinda Balluku, inspected the road’s third and final section, which includes construction of three bridges over Devoll River, respectively one in Mollas, and two in Sulove, as well as work to complete the road signs designed to improve safety, including the residential areas.
“This is an important road as it links many villages which have seen a boom in agricultural development. The new road has had an obvious impact on the area. With the completion of the feasibility study and beginning of work to construct Mollas-Kuçova section project, this road will fully complete, propelling the area into development,” Infrastructure Minister Balluku said.
Rehabilitation of this segment is a great relief for farmers in this area, who will easily access their plots and markets to trade their locally-grown produce.
For the first time on this road axis the asphalt layers have been mixed with tire dust. A total of recycled scrap car tires, producing some 800 tonnes of tire dust, have been used for the asphalt layers.
“For the first time, a product generated from the waste tires in asphalt mixture that provides for increased resistance, ride quality and longer pavement life than the normal asphalt. This has actually been an experimental process yet a successful one, which we will try to implement in other infrastructure projects too, given that it is totally based on recycling and green processes being used in roads’ paving,” the Minister of Infrastructure Balluku said.
