Statement by Dr. Rovena Daja, Public Health Institute:

As part of the daily briefing on the spread of the Covid-19 infection in our country, we inform that tests were conducted on the samples of 243 suspected cases, out of which only four new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours.

Data on identified Covid-19 cases and active epidemiological investigation and surveillance show that the epidemiological situation in Albania is stable.

The new Covid-19 cases mark the lowest number of daily cases or only 1.64 percent of the daily tests since the outbreak in the country.

Two of the cases were identified in Kruja, one in Tirana and one in Berat. Twenty-eight more patients recovered in the past 24 hours.

A total of 876 citizens have tested positive for the virus since the first Covid-19 case was detected in early March, and 682 of them, or around 78% of the patients, have already recovered.

The number of active Covid-19 cases is 163, mainly in Tirana, Kruja, Shkodra,  Kamez.

The situation of patients at two hospitals has improved over the past days. A total of 24 patients are currently being treated at the Infectious Diseases Hospital and the ‘COVID 2’ Hospital and only one of them is intensive care.

Less than 15% of the infected people are hospitalized, whereas the rest of patients are being monitored by the family doctors.

So far, tests have been conducted on 11332 people, 10802 of them were molecular tests and 530 are serological tests.

Despite the improved situation, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection appeals to citizens to strictly abide by the instructions from the health authorities about social and physical distancing rules and personal hygiene, and calls on businesses to rigorously comply with the safety protocols.
