Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The final report on “Reform of University Education and Research in Albania”, a joint effort of the Government, experts of the field and stakeholders, was presented today to academics, teachers, students, researchers who contributed actively to the preparation of this draft through observations, advice and suggestions.

Minister of Education, Lindita Nikolla said that this reform is extremely important for our country because it will enable a radically different functioning of the Albanian universities, placing them at the center, not as a bureaucratic structure with a mutilated autonomy, but as structure that cultivates talent and has as its main subject academic freedom.

“We want Albanian universities to come out from this lethargic state of fictitious autonomy. We are claiming a real autonomy, which means opportunities to act and interact in the market, with full freedom as any other actor. We want universities to be a place where talent is cultivated, strengthened and where ideas circulate freely and academic freedom is the main subject of your daily work, distinguished professors”, she addressed the audience.

Professor Arjan Gjonçaj, Chairman of the Committee for Reform of University Education and Scientific Research, while presenting the work of the Committee explained that this is a comprehensive reform that includes all levels of the University Education.
