Today, we have good news for Albanians, Albania and in particular for Albanian media.

Prestigious Paris-based organization “Reporters without borders” has published today its annual report on media freedom worldwide.

Albania has not only improved its ranking compared to last year, by climbing 17 positions in the classification, but this prestigious report has also dedicated to Albania a special chapter entitled “A new page in Albania’s media history”.

It is in fact a new chapter regarding freedom of media in Albania and we are very proud that in a few months on power of our Alliance for European Albania we managed to create a completely new climate for the media and journalists.

As we have said before, the book of mistakes of previous government helps us not repeat mistakes of the past.

The time when former President of Albania Sali Berisha was ranked among 10 greates enemies of freedom of press has gone, together with the time of purchase or destruction of media based on party interests.

As also the Report stresses, our governance is establishing a climate of security and progress by :

consolidating independence of media,

aiming to enable it to create full transparency regarding its ownership and financing,

creating all the conditions for reporters to exercise their profession in free, independent and dignified way.

This Report is certainly an encouragement for so far work and a strong incentive to secure the improvement of media climate in Albania also for next year.
