Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The Urban Renaissance, a project of Prime Minister Edi Rama to renew the image of local towns and squares across Albania after years of neglect, is underway in the Kamez Municipality with a project on urban requalification of the silicate-brick apartment buildings in the old residential neighbourhood.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Mayor of Kamze, closely inspected the ongoing works as part of the project on urban requalification of the whole area that had been neglected over decades. The residential buildings are being rehabilitated, along with the related civil infrastructure in a bid to improve the quality of life for local residents.

“The investment will serve around 7000 residents,” Kamze Mayor Rekip Suli said, adding that no rehabilitation and reconstruction projects have been implanted in the area since the’90s. The underground infrastructure is also being rehabilitated with reconstruction of the waste water and sewerage networks, as well as the water supply system aimed at ensuring 24-hour supply a day,

The urban requalification program being implanted in the area is expected to increase the property value of the apartments. “The buildings have been covered by external thermal insulation system. Not long ago, the area was full of piles of trash. The buildings’ facades have been rehabilitated, while urban requalification project is underway, with the project featuring parking lots, green spaces, as well as a local market,” Suli said.

The government head praised the project to rehabilitate the area and the performance of the local government authorities in Kamze.

“Every apartment costs now a lot more. The apartment prices have risen by at least 20 to 30 percent,” Kamze Mayor said.
