“The urban revival of cities” affects Kavaja as well. With the government’s support, the implementation of the project for the urban rehabilitation of the city center has started. The project includes the new building of the city hall, reconstruction of 2.5 kilometers access road to the south of the city, rehabilitation of 11 thousand square meters of city center and 3200 square meters of the park. Once concluded, the city- center will have the aspect of a city-center of Europian standarts.
Prime Minister Rama was today in Kavaja to follow the progress of the city-center project. While inspecting every work site in the city, the Prime Minister said that only in one year, with the support of the Government and the local government commitment, Kavaja was transformed into “a construction site”.
“We come here and find the city transformed into a site following a close cooperation to make admirable projects and promote their funding. Nobody would have imagined that after voting for 20 consecutive years the Democratic Party and believing for eight consecutive years in the government of the Democratic Party, without receiving a cent, Kavaja would be transformed into a construction sites within the first year of the socialist government. 11 thousand square meters of Kavaja’s city center, plus 3200 square meters of the park and 2.5 kilometer of road, transformed into a European road – where the standards will ensure not only traffic flow but also better pedestrian and bicycle areas – are just the beginning of an investment that will continue intensively”- the Prime Minister said.
Prime Rama stressed that although much talk has been made about Kavaja, reality has shown the abandonment of the city. This abandonment is now over, the Prime Minister said, expressing full support to any municipal project, in view of urban revitalization and living standards.
“I want to assure you on the full support of the government to Kavaja. Kavaja is an area which has much suffered for many years, which has had many shortcomings. Abandonment of Kavaja is over once and for all, because in 2011 Kavaja made the right choice and, from a city covered by trash, filth, mess, turned into a city having set as priorities cleanliness, discipline in circulation, respect for pedestrians, for seniors, for children. I assure you that in terms of projects, we will support any project submitted to us by the Municipality of Kavaja. I am convinced that next spring, following the completion of these works, everyone will be proud of revived Kavaja, because Kavaja’s revival will be tangible and visible. And Kavaja will proudly host all visitors, having a square of European standards and size and accessing roads that more than anything speak about the future of a city in consonant transformation. I assure you that by the end of our four-year term in government, we will asphalt every street and alley of your city”- the Prime Minister said to the Mayor, his team and citizens of Kavaja.
Mayor of Kavaja, Elvis Roshi, highlighted the importance that access roads in the city will have also for the business. “This 2.5 kilometers road is very important for the business development of Kavaja. It is different from other roads, because it has also a bicycle lane to give priority to those who use bicycles”- Roshi said. Additionally, he explained that the road project includes sidewalks and greenery, according to the model used for Tirana’s sidewalks, where trees will not be part of the pavement, but will be planted on the road’ sides.
Prime Minister Rama urged urban standards to be respected in all infrastructure elements. “Sidewalks, – the Prime Minister underlined – should be sidewalks, where a family can walk together. Husbands should not be forced to walk in front of their wives and children get lost. Because, this kind of sidewalks were the sidewalks they used to make.”
