First phase of the work commenced to construct civil infrastructure, roads, sewerage and wastewater system and the networking cable lines at the new construction site selected to host 35 single-family homes and six residential buildings with 68 apartments in the town of Rreshen as part of the ongoing post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction programme. The new residential complex is slated to complete by October 2021 along with the urban infrastructure.
Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected the construction site today.
“Once complete, a genuine urban area will be created, including educational institutions, service utilities, and green spaces and related infrastructure,” Rreshen Mayor said.
It is a brand new development area set to feature a completely new and modern infrastructure that will significantly improve quality of life for the citizens, the head of the Albanian Development Fund Dritan Agolli said.
“The new areas selected to host development projects actually resemble more to the tourist resorts than the residential complexes. The only difference is that the tourist resorts are built for people who can afford purchasing them, whereas these residential blocks will become available to individuals and families that can’t afford doing so. This is the best way out of the serious crisis triggered by incredible natural disasters and the best way for all those hit hard by these disasters to emerge stronger. If we were to apply the same formula applied by other countries and offer soft bank loans to the affected people, it would have been an unbearable burden for the affected families. Therefore, they will all benefit new housing for free and they will be housed in much better living spaces than they were used to prior the earthquake, and the children in particular who will now be living in a completely different world compared to what they have been through before the quake,” PM Rama said.
The infrastructure work is scheduled to complete in five months and the work on construction of the single-family and multi-family housing units will follow immediately.
