Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Prime Minister Edi Rama attended today the Sarajevo Summit, which is part of the European initiative for the Western Balkans, and aims to coordinate the efforts of the countries of the region towards European integration. The summit brought together the prime ministers of Western Balkan countries aspiring to EU integration, namely the prime ministers of Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania.

The Summit discussed the European integration processes of Balkan countries, cooperation among them and the progress of regional cooperation through various projects on economy, transport, energy, and infrastructure.

The Summit is held in the framework of preparations for the next Summit of the representatives of Western Balkan countries and EU representatives, as a continuation of the Berlin Process, which after Berlin, Vienna and Paris, will be held in Trieste, Italy this year.

At the conclusion of the Summit, the participants released a joint statement where they agreed on a further economic cooperation among Western Balkans countries, and on the possibilities of a common market which includes the movement of goods, services and capital, free movement of the skilled labour force, and a dynamic space for investments.

The Summit also agreed to actively promote business and investments at the level of small and medium enterprises. Participants proposed that the representatives of the participating countries, together with the Regional Cooperation Council and supported by the European Commission, begin work to prepare a proposal for a joint approach to further economic cooperation in the Western Balkans through various initiatives, in order to present them to the Trieste Summit.
