The new nine-year school building in Gosë, Municipality of Rrogozhine will be ready to welcome its schoolchildren this November after being rebuilt from scratch, six times bigger than the old structure that was reduced to rubble due to the devastating earthquake that hit the country on Nov 26 last year.
Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the construction site where intense work is underway to make sure that the new school with 17 classrooms, 4 labs, a gym, sports grounds and green spaces open its doors soon.
The Minister of State for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj noted that largest part of work has completed within several weeks.
“The nine-year school in Gosë will be around six times bigger than the previous school building. It will accommodate 350 schoolchildren. I visited the site around a month ago, where foundation works were still underway and in 30 days’ time only the second floor of the building has now completed. Installation of the heating and cooling system, electricity system will start very soon. We are talking about a model school with gyms and laboratories,” Ahmetaj said.
The new educational facility will also house the pre-school classrooms. The school project has been designed to provide schoolchildren easy access to the sports grounds and the green spaces around the building. Specifically, the school gym will serve not only pupils, but the community as well. “The school’s entire structure is about to complete soon. Whole infrastructure features insulating panels to provide thermal insulation. It is an additional standard that has to do with the energy efficiency,” said Dritan Agolli, the Director General of the Albanian Development Fund.
On her part, the school principal said that the new infrastructure best meets and addresses the needs of the schoolchildren and the community. “I am very pleased. The community is also very pleased. The new building is a much better than the previous one. I am a parent, a teacher and the school principal and I am really happy because a very good thing is being done for our community.”
PM Rama highly praised the impressive work that has been done to construct the school building in few weeks: “It is really an impressive work carried out within such a short time. It is a huge volume of work.”
A total of six new schools will be built in the Municipality of Rrogozhina, while work is underway to construct the new houses for the quake-affected families.
