Albanian Government Council of Ministers

PRIME MINISTER EDI RAMA AND PRESIDENT OF THE ITALIAN SENATE PIETRO GRASSO OPENED TODAY IN TIRANA THE ITALIAN BUSINESS IN ALBANIA WEEK.

The event is organized for the first time and is the result of the cooperation between the Italian Embassy in Tirana and the Ministry of Economic Development. The intent is to present opportunities for business and investment that Albania offers in priority sectors of national development. In addition, it aims to expand Italian business. During the three days of the Italian business week, Italian and Albanian entrepreneurs will discuss on prospects for cooperation expansion in energy, tourism, agribusiness and manufacturing.

In his speech, Prime Minister Rama recalled the movie “L’ America” by Italian director Gianni Amelio, dedicated to the early ’90s Albania. 20 years later, the Albanian reality presents a totally reversed panorama of the Albanian immigrant looking for opportunities in Italy.

“Probably more than 20 years ago, Gianni Amelio came to Albania to shoot his famous movie “L’ America”, that told about Albanians going to Italy to find “their America”. I met Gianni Amelio – who is a good friend – last year in Tirana. He was back in Albania to make a movie about an Italian guy coming to Albania to look for a job. I am not saying that Albania is a country where Italians can migrate, but I can say in all honesty, taking also advantage of the presence of the President of the Italian Senate, and I am sure no one will be offended, that Albania is the country where Italian entrepreneurs can ‘migrate’. It is the place where every Italian entrepreneur who cannot handle bureaucracy anymore, here can find “America” as Gianni Amelio’s grandfather used to say” Prime Minister said.
