A year after the local elections on 21st June, 1/3 of the works for the construction of the New Boulevard and of the first underground parking in Tirana have finished. The Prime Minister Edi Rama and the mayor ErionVeliaj, inspected today the works for the project which is progressing with fast rhythms, evaluating the construction of the underground parking as a good opportunity to facilitate the situation with the parking in Tirana.
The Prime Minister Rama stated that the project will give another value to the entire zone. “I believe that within a reasonable time with the extraordinary rhythm the municipality is getting reengaged, this boulevard will be another added value and above all, a new standard in our urban space. Why not, it is becoming the place where the “Fan Zone” of the European finals will be located, and no matter how it goes, they will not have the extraordinary impact of the historic first matches, and of the last-night match, which was the first win in the history of Albania in a final of the European championship,” he stated.
Also, the Prime Minister Rama expressed the appreciation to the Municipality of Tirana for the new rhythm of the works it has brought in the city from its first year, after the win on 21st June last year. “I believe that the team of the Municipality meets the standards of our national team’s standards,” he stated.
The Mayor of the Municipality of Tirana, ErionVeliaj, explained that the New Boulevard has been one of the major projects promised by the municipality during the electoral campaign, which today is becoming a reality. “When we came in the lead of the Municipality of Tirana, we found the project completed just at 2%. Practically, just a part of the construction site had been opened, meanwhile today we have advanced at 1/3 of the project”, the mayor Veliaj stated. According to him the wok that has been carried out indicates that such projects are possible to be realized in Tirana, adding that it will facilitate the parking, mainly in the area around the boulevard “Zogu I” and in the area of the former train station. “The 360 cars which today block the Boulevard “Zogu I” and the area of the train station will go underground. The parking will be managed by the municipality of Tirana and it opens the way even to the construction of some other underground parking spaces” the mayor of the Municipality of Tirana stated.
Veliaj mentioned even the progress of the project of the New Boulevard and of the River Lana, underscoring that with these two projects the entire area will get another image and value. “We have opened 1 km of the Boulevard, we still have 600 other metres before this projects meets another one, the one of the rehabilitation of the river of Tirana, where we have progressed at 75% of the project. These two projects will make this area even more attractive. The Boulevard is as wide as the Champs-Elysées, 75 metres wide. Also, we have decided to change the project, as we promised a year ago in the elections, to have a central park, which adds the values, and just one street with some blocks of flats along the sides. I am pleased that the central park will be 6 times larger than the park “Rinia”, Veliaj stated.
The representative of the subcontracting company for the project of the Boulevard, Pëllumb Beta, emphasized the fact that the parking will finish within this year, meanwhile the New Boulevard within the next year. “With the engagement of the new staff, the things changed. At the moment we are at the level of 30% of the works in the Boulevard, as well as in the parking. Until the end of the year we expect that the first 700-800 metres will be ready”, he stated.
The underground parking will have a capacity of 306 parking spaces separated respectively: 152 parking spaces on the first floor and 154 on the second floor. The area projected to be on the ceiling of the parking will be a pedestrian area, with a surface of 7000 square metres. Because of its great length, the structure of the parking is separated in three blocks, respectively A, B and C.
The New Boulevard has a length of 1.600 metres and a width of 70 metres, where apart from the 6 lanes of the cars there is even a linear green park on both sides. Also, it projects a modern underground infrastructure, which includes the sanitation system of …, the drainage system and the underground galleries.
