Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Albania’s natural gas supplier Albgaz and leading Spanish energy company ENAGAS today signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Madrid, paving the way towards development of the country’s gas infrastructure and a series of energy projects of the Albanian government.

In his remarks during the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Edi Rama affirmed that Albanian government is ready to further strengthen ties and cooperation with Spain in various important areas. The government head underlined that a growing number of leading energy companies in European and in the United States of America are showing increased interests in energy cooperation projects clearing the way to Albania’s transformation into a major gas supply and distribution hub in the region.

“We are ready to strengthen the relations and further deepen cooperation with Spain. We are now investing in solar power. Tomorrow we will launch the construction work on the region’s first solar power park and projects on wind power are being prepared. We are also working on the Trans Adriatic Pipeline project, as well as on the practically completely changed perspective of the gas and energy supply.

Your company has amassed a broad know-how experience, it has an excellent track record regarding the company’s good governance and therefore everything is relevant,” PM Rama said.

On her part, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Belinda Balluku said that the agreement marks another step towards strengthening Albania’s energy system, building new capacities and alternative power sources through the natural liquefied gas, turning Albania into an important natural gas carrier and supplier in the Western Balkans, as well as an energy factor in whole Europe.
