Regional hospital in the south-western municipality of Vlora now provides modernized care services through the advanced technology of the Outpatient Clinic and hospital’s Pharmacy thanks to the state budget-funded investment project on complete rehabilitation of the facility, while another ambitious project is already underway to reinforce and modernize the emergency department in a bid to set contemporary standards in care service delivery to the citizens.

In concrete terms, around 2500 patients with chronic conditions receive treatment at this hospital’s Outpatient Department, including specialized consultations and check-ups at the pulmonary disease specialists at this Department, as well as in-depth spirometry and X-ray examinations.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Protection,  Ogerta Manastirliu, toured the newly-renovated premises of the Outpatient Clinic and the Pharmacy of Vlora Regional Hospital.

In addition to the reconstruction of the emergency department, the new investment also ensures implementation of the Operational Standard Procedures and Protocols, starting with the patient triage, diagnosis, treatment and timely referral to hospital services, including further specialized treatments at tertiary and university hospitals.

This project’s completion will coincide with the start of upcoming tourist season and Vlora hospital, the biggest hospital centre in the southern region, is a point of reference for the visitors to Vlora as well as to the neighbouring coastal municipalities of Sarand and  Himara.

During the inspection, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Sociale Ogerta Manastirliu focused on the investment project to refurbish the Outpatient Clinic and the hospital’s Farmacy.

“A very important investment in Vlora Hospital has just been completed and the Farmacy and Outpatient Clinic have been transformed. These buildings were degrading over the years, but they have been totally renovated and offer new care services. Newly graduated physicians from the cities of Berat, Gjirokaster, Tirana, and Fier have been recently joined this hospital’s personnel.

Vlora hospital is now a completed facility also in terms of the pharmacological treatment of cancer and other diseases. Much improved standards of medicines storage are now in place.

The next rehabilitated building houses the Outpatient Department that now offers care and treatment for the infectious diseases too,” Health Minister Manastirliu said, underlining that completion of another major investment to rehabilitate the Emergency Department is now a top priority and more investment projects will continue to rehabilitate the surgical ward, pathology and other healthcare services.

“We have allocated state budget funds to finalize investment in the emergency department. The emergency department at Vlora provides 24-hour emergency care to over 40,000 patients who need urgent medical attention, as it practically also provides care to an ever growing number of visitors and holidaymakers during the summer tourist season in particular.

Once rehabilitation of the emergency department is over, work will go on to renovate the surgical ward and the pathology department to deliver and set the very same high standards we have already set with the intensive care units at this hospital.

A series of other investments are expected to start or complete this year, including the investment in the psychiatric hospital that is expected to significantly improve quality of care at this hospital,” Manastiriliu explained.
