The first phase of River Preservation project at Ura Vajgurore is completed by damns rehabilitation and the river bank area. This made possible residents in the area were not flood-affected for the first time after many years, despite intense precipitations. The second phase of the project, the greening and the return to a recreational area, sports fields and playgrounds has already started. While a thousand trees are planted and over 450 other trees continue to be planted.
The Mayor of Ura Vajgurore, Juliana Memaj provided information on the project: “The entire surface, where we will also plant trees is part of the second project phase of river preservation. The first phase is completed. Although rain precipitations have been intense this winter, families hereby were not affected by floods. The second phase, besides rehabilitation, there are attractive sports fields, children’s playground, lightening. We have built 8 new urban centers thanks to Urban Rebirth and we have completed projects in 23 villages from 33 in total within our municipality territory. We made possible to add green areas by 20 thousand metres square.”
Taking advantage of the Prime Minister presence, the inhabitants expressed issues of concern due to stone quarries in Skrapar, saluting their foreclosure decision. “The problem,” one of them said “is that the stone quarries are till remaining, and they are a deal breaker. The smoke caused by cars passing by at the Guri Bardhe area is highly problematic. Closing Skrapar’s stone quarries were the right decision.”
Prime Minister Rama ensured that every stone quarry enterprise must meet all contract’s standards according to which apart of their profit will be dedicated to greening and environment.
“When we came here 3 years ago it was a disaster, the river had overflew the houses and it happened every year. The issue of annual flooding is concluded. Today we are planting trees. We will transform this space into a park for the town, sports grounds, senior people venues, children’s corners, and in the meantime we started the late attack on quarrying. We closed Tomorr Mountain stone quarries and we will close all quarries that do not meet standards. Quarries have to be within all the standards, from the permit issuance phase to the exploitation phase and, above all, whoever exploits it is to get the stone in order to earn a profit but part of the profit, as stated by the law and the contract must be shared with the community to green, so that ruins are not left behind, as it has happened to Tomorr Mountain or on the way to Kruje, or as it has happened here. But instead leave behind the park, that is, a pristine nature. So step by step we are doing things that if done in due time, we would be dealing with quite a lot else today. I know that to a family, to a person, 25 years are plenty, but we are doing things successively. Obviously, a tree to grow up takes time, Rome wasn’t built in a day. It is known that, you can ask here in this community of yours, that if I say I will do something I do it, but when I cannot, I do not say it.”
