The water supply and sewerage system in the town of Librazhd is undergoing complete reconstruction project under the national program designed to provide 24-hour supply to residents all over the country.
Prime Minister Edi Rama inspected the ongoing works to rehabilitate entire water supply network, an investment taking place for first time after more than 40 years.
The national program “24-hour supply” completes the reconstruction of the infrastructure designed to provide potable water supplies and improve the drinking-water quality, as well as construct and wastewater treatment plants across the country. “I am very pleased that many water supply projects across the country are nearing completion. More than 120 water supply projects have been launched all over Albania. Our goal is to ensure that residents in all urban areas receive 24-hour water supply within 2021, while such projects are also underway in many administrative units in rural areas of the country. This national program put an end to a decades-long story of projects to build water supply systems in exchange of votes,” the Premier said.
The government head stated that the national program will put an end to the 50-year history of water shortages for every household from Bajram Curri to Konispol. “The normative act the government approved in its regular meeting on Wednesday includes a significant funding volume to support construction of water supply systems and I am confident this is the last term in office of a government over the past 30 years, when providing water supply to urban areas is still an questionable issue and, in the meantime, the projects will expand to include rural areas, where many of them are already underway and new water supply systems have become operational. Let’s not forget that building networks of water supply has never been a reality in whole territory and in the history of Albania and these projects have certainly taken time, yet it is quite interesting when certain individuals say why we are still talking about water supply. We are not talking about the water supply issue because we wish to do so, but because this is part of the terrible legacy we inherited 7 years ago. And if previous governments failed to do this in 30, 40 and 50 years, someone has to do it. We are doing this and it will no longer be the case with politicians pledging to build water supplies to this and that city during the upcoming electoral campaigns, because everyone from Bajram Curri to Konispol will now receive 24-hour water supply,” the Premier stated.
The water supply and sewerage system in the town of Librazh, from a completely degraded network, built in the ’70s, is being transformed into 43-km new internal water supply and sewerage network, with 12 kilometres of main and secondary lines according to contemporary standards, monitored in real time through the modern SCADA system.
