The project designed to revitalize Tirana’s iconic pyramid building and transform it into the largest technology and innovation centre for youth, is taking shape day by day.

The new technology and culture centre and a masterpiece of urban development in the Albanian capital, with 30% of the reconstruction work already complete, is an amazing architecture design by the renowned Netherlands-based architecture and urban design studio MVRDV to provide optimum conditions for it to become the region’s largest digital technology and innovation hub.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) Michael Granoff and the Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj, toured the reconstruction site today to closely inspect the project’s progress. Tirana Mayor Veliaj provided an outline on the progress of work and highlighted some of the specific architecture elements of the project. “We can state that 30% of the planned work has completed. The architect is expected to come back by end of this month for the project’s finishing touches, yet a lot of work remains to be done to rehabilitate the building’s facade. We have obtained permit for the façade, as well as the work to create green spaces, as well as some interior details. As you see, these look like the Lego game parts and pieces, with some of them being installed in interior space and others externally on the building’s sides. These are two cubes and their final shape will be that of a huge cube. The rest will be an auditorium. So we will see a combination between the stairways on the building’s facade and the metallic part to help fill the central atrium with natural light. Some of the boxes will be installed here, some of them inside and others on the side of the building,” Mayor Veliaj said, adding that the project also includes a cinema and a huge auditorium.

The project is also designed to create Tirana’s newest symbol and landmark and making the building accessible to everyone from all sides.

The transformed pyramid building, due to complete next October with the support of the Albanian-American Development Fund (AADF), will host thousands of young people to learn coding, robotics, design and programming.
