Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The project for the coastline of Vlore, known also as Lungo Mare, started being implemented today. After the agreement entered with one of the most prestigious international companies chosen by the European Commission, and upon its funding, the project enters now the most important phase which includes infrastructure of the coastline of Vlore. Lungo Mare will be finalized in a short time as a new European urban reality, and the first step towards a major transformation for Vlore and tourist Albania.

The project consist in the rehabilitation and revitalization of the urban space within the coastline of the city of Vlore. Interventions have given an extraordinary liveliness to the promenade, in addition to transforming it into an important recreational space and a favorite shelter for residents of every age, as well as an attractive destination for tourists and visitors.

The project envisages a thorough reorganization of the current promenade of Vlore, including squares and public spaces, improvement and rehabilitation of the road along the coast, and parking lots. In addition, the promenade will be revitalized with a number of public parks having special functions, where trees of different kinds will be planted.

Designed by one of the most renowned architects and urban planners in Europe, spaces envisaged in this project have entirely European standards, thus adding to Vlore the premises of being one of the most attractive destinations of the Mediterranean.

Prime Minister Rama was today in Vlore and checked on the progress made so far.

The director of the Albanian Development Fund informed that the sand and green lots, both funded by the Albanian government, are about to be completed.

The Prime Minister appreciated the works done, and said that the radical transformation will give Vlore very soon the status of one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean.

“I believe this is a good day for skeptical people of Vlore who will be much calmer starting from today. Today, after entering the agreement with a prestigious international company, which was chosen by the European Commission, and thanks to an EC funding, as I have explained many times, the most important part of the project started, which includes the infrastructure of the coastline, otherwise known as Lungo Mare. Covering an area from where we are now to the old tourist complex, this project is expected to finish in 14 months, but I am sure we will complete in a shorter time in order to have it ready for the next tourist season.

This project of absolutely European standards includes also underground infrastructure which has been missing in this area, as well as a very interesting complexity defined by the designer, one of the most famous European architects and urban planners, who won the competition and made a reality what we promised since the first day, to make Vlore have one of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean. Later we will continue with the other side of the coastline from the port to the Forest of Sode. I believe, this is a happy day because bureaucratic procedures in the European Commission have been successfully completed, and here we are now looking at a radical transformation which was unimaginable just 18 months ago”, the Prime Minister said.
