Lezha in northwest Albania is the next city adding to the list of cities, where the inoculation of the adults 80 and over. The Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the vaccination site in Lezhe, accompanied by the Minister of Health Ogerta Manastriliu, to see up close this process which is vital to the efforts to break the COVID-19 chain of transmission.

The elderly already receiving the first dose of the vaccine have been previously selected by the family doctors, while with more vaccine shipments scheduled to arrive soon the number of the administered doses will increase in every city across the country.

“The process goes on in all vaccination sites. More than 15.000 vaccines have been already administered, with 12000 medical personnel already vaccinated, whereas more than 1000 vaccines are administered on daily basis. I am confident we will be able to accelerate the process once the next vaccine shipments arrive, either under COVAX mechanism that will deliver the first shipment in the first two weeks, and the next batch of Pfizer vaccines that are scheduled to arrive on March 15. We are arranging everything according to the vaccination programme so that the second dose is administered on time as it is truly essential for the vaccine’s full effectiveness,” Health Minister said.

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout is expected to commence for teachers, who will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine as soon as the initial shipments are delivered.
