A string of projects are already underway in the city of Berat as part of the second stage of Urban Renaissance Program designed to revive the city’s historic values and return attention to cultural heritage sites with a significant impact on Berat’s profile as a popular tourist destination. The Urban Renaissance projects include urban requalification of the of the entire area, which carries a special historical and tourist value around the Ethnographic Museum along the traditional street “Mihal Komneno”, Mangalem neighbourhood, “Selamllëk” square, together with the area hosting important religious sites, including the King Mosque or the Sultan’s Mosque, and the Khalwati (Halveti) Tekke, a Khalwati order shrine.

During his visit to the south-western city of Berat, PM Rama was accompanied by Mayor Ervin Demo and the Director of the Albanian Development Fund Dritan Agolli, to inspect progress of the ongoing projects with a significant impact on the city’s economy and tourism.

The government head put emphasis on the need to rehabilitate details in all areas affected by the transformation projects. “There is a need for some elegant interventions here so that the area becomes a favourite place for people to be out to relax and walk at night. 

The series of investment projects have shed light not only on the city’s historical values, but have also increased the investors’ interest in the area, Berat Mayor noted.

The museum city of Berat has already become an engine of the national mainstream economy with its tourist offer to local and international visitors.
