The nine-year school Qemal Mici in the city of Durres has been transformed into a modern educational facility after being rebuilt to provide contemporary habitability and education standards for around 1000 pupils, including kids attending the pre-school education system. Totally rebuilt from scratch, the new school building offers high quality and comfortable habitability conditions and contemporary EU education standards for the pupils and the pedagogical staff.

Prime Minister Edi Rama toured the premises of the newly-built school in Durres.

“This school has traditionally worked through a double-shift system because of the large number of students attending this school. With the school now built back larger, most importantly we are now provided the opportunity to apply a single shift system,” Durres Mayor Emirjana Sako said, adding that “four more educational facilities are being built, whereas the design for construction of 13 more schools, mainly by international donors, are about to complete and the construction work will kick off soon. The educational facilities already complete were all funded by the Albanian government.”

Speaking about the reconstruction of the educational facilities, the State Minister for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj said that “a total of 163 schools are being reconstructed and rebuilt in collaboration with the international donors, while a number of other educational facilities will be included in the ongoing post-earthquake reconstruction programme.”

The new school building features gyms and auxiliary venues, multifunctioning rooms and it is designed to serve as community centre.
