Vaccination of the adults 80 years of age and older continues in the coastal city of Durres, where the inoculation centre has been set up at the Sports Hall and where 10 vaccination booths have been made available. The process is taking place in line with the vaccine administration protocols and the elderly voice optimism, saying they feel now safe and protected from the virus.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, and the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu, saw up close the vaccination process in Durres. Health Minister explained that in addition of the vaccination of the elderly, vaccination of the health professionals is nearing completion.

“We opened the Durres-based vaccination site today. The vaccination process began with the adults 80 years of age and older. The target groups have been determined by the family doctors, who decides who would receive the jab first according to their age and date of birth. A total of 14.000 vaccines have been administered to date. As many as 10 vaccination sites have been launched here in order to speed up and complete the process as soon as possible. The vaccine rollout goes on in all sites across the country and vaccination of the medical personal is nearing its completion. It has already completed here in Durres. Once the first shipment of the AstraZeneca vaccine doses arrives, we will kick off the vaccine rollout for teachers and the process will take place in schools. Therefore, we are selecting the teams of doctors and nurses, who will undergo a training process this week. The vaccination of doctors and nurses is expected to complete within March 15, yet a number of doctors and nurses have recovered from the infection and we are considering their vaccination at a later phase. It is a dynamic assessment with all name lists of doctors and nurses, but more than 11.000 doctors and nurses have already received the vaccine to date,” Health Minister Manastirliu said.
