An interactive discussion was held today at the Center for the Openness and Dialogue (COD) at the Prime Ministry building to launch “Fitimtarët” (The Winners), a book by of Alastair Campbell. Through examples of success story, the author tells the way to success of elite athletes, senior managers, leaders of both countries and global business companies.
Author Alastair Campbell, the coach of the national football team Gianni De Biasi, the winner of several European trophies as a coach Arrigo Sacchi, who has successfully led the Italian national football team, and Prime Minister Edi Rama engaged in an interactive discussion and told their experiences at the presence of guests from the world of business, media, sports, culture and politics.
According to author Alastair Campbell, in order to be a winner, creating a successful team is of paramount importance. The best winning minds and the best winning teams, Campbell said, engage first in sports, in business, and then in politics. “What you can learn from sports, from being part of a successful team means that what you have should be applied in various roles. I think that the most interesting thing about politics is that the best mentality comes from sports. People think that it is obvious that the best teams have to be the winning ones, but what happens to those people who do not like sports? They work and learn from sport, because only if you learn from these things, you can become a good team, a good leader.”
According to Prime Minister Rama road to success means interaction, vision and strategy. “Here we have the whole experience of a man universally known as the man who changed communication in politics and election campaigns. We have also another man who is universally known for changing the history of football, and a third man who is universally known as someone who changed the face of Albanian football. The most fantastic part in all this has to do with interaction between politics and sports as two human activities, where winning is very important, but it not enough, because what matters most is how you win. Ultimately, whether football or politics are activities that are directly related to the team, and no doubt with the individual, but the part concerning the individual and the team are always connected in one way or another.”
Arrigo Sacchi said that “success becomes such when everyone performs their own activity, using the maximum of their qualities with dignity and respect, and then, if a victory is achieved, ok, but even if victory does not come, things will go well for this person.”
Coach Gianni De Biasi recalled the emotions for Albania’s qualification in the European football championship, and said that we can talk about a new movement within the Albanian football, and a success model is already looked for in the country. “Of course, we have given life to a new movement within the Albanian football, we have provided important examples of some boys who now approach football as young players, aspiring to become like Cana and Berisha. I believe this is the most important thing, because they don’t have only the examples of Ronaldo and Messi anymore. Our players as well have become idols they want to follow.”
The author of the book concluded with a suggestion: “What politicians do not do is see how to build these big teams [in sport] and learn from this.”
