Prime Minister Edi Rama today inspected the ongoing work to reconstruct second segment of “Mujo Ulqinaku” road and first section of “Jakov Mile” road in the southern city of Fier. PM Rama, accompanied by Fier Mayor Armando Subashi, also inspected work to rehabilitate Gjanica River, a project which is reviving the southern city and transforming a forgotten area, untidy with rubbish, or incorrectly disposing waste, into one of the city’s thriving green spaces.
The reconstruction of the “Mujo Ulqinaku” and “Jakov Mile” roads, both part of the city’s ring road, will serve to more than 35.000 local inhabitants. The buildings’ facades will undergo a restoration project giving the area a new life and look. “The project is complete and it includes a separated bike lane, roadway lighting. The two roads will serve as an interior axis and they will ease traffic, as heavy vehicles will not be allowed to drive within the city roads. We also hope the new infrastructure will also give a fresh impetus to business. It is not that we are just rehabilitating the area, but the roads will also have a significant impact on local economy and business development,” Fier Mayor said.
Despite the difficulties and minor delays due to the current coronavirus pandemic, work to construct this axis is running on schedule, while the project managers voice their optimism about the timely completion of this important project that will add value to this area of the city.
Meanwhile, the newly-rehabilitated Gjanica river will add to the attractions in the city of Fier for visitors during summer. The rehabilitation project of Gjanica River will avoid flooding and provide a fresh impetus to businesses in the area.
