Albanian Government Council of Ministers

The Albanian Alps are among the most beautiful tourist destinations that Albania offers to both domestic and foreign visitors. The development of tourism in this attractive area will be now driven by a well-studied master plan, the goal of which is to provide a sustainable socio-economic development plan for the Albanian Alp communities. The plan includes 16 tourist destinations, which are the combination of the potential in the country and across the border, between Albania and Kosovo, aims at improving infrastructure as well as providing new services, while improving existing ones.

Prime Minister Edi Rama was in Tropoja today, and attended the presentation of this master plan.

Urban planning specialist Romina Sahiti said that this study project paves the way for a sustainable development of the area and of tourism, as well as of the local and national economy. Also, it transforms the Alps into a tourist destination among the most attractive throughout the year. “The Alps National Plan targets the tourism sector, but not only, as it will address also other influential sectors. Attraction nuclei and key attractors will focus on the most authentic development, in preserving the identity of the area, “she said.

Prime Minister Edi Rama noted that despite the wasted time to the detriment of this area, the development of extraordinary tourism potentials is on the right track. “If works were carried out in order, like we are doing, if what we have done here, which is the welcoming gate of the whole area, were done a quarter of century ago, today the whole area would be Switzerland, up to the most remote village. This is the whole story. Unfortunately, we came here to carry out this work much later than we should have, but this is the path. Thankfully, we are here because, despite the damage, the potentials are still extraordinary.”

The Alps Master Plan affects 4 municipalities and 12 administrative units.
