As part of the daily coronavirus briefing, we inform you that work is underway on the ground to identify new COVID-19 cases and trace contacts of the cases tested positive for the virus. Epidemiologists at every local healthcare unit from north to south have been deployed in the ground and are doing incredible job in providing real time data on the contacts after verifying suspected COVID-19 cases.
Tests were conducted on 90 suspected individuals, out of which 11 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours.
So far, tests have been conducted on 1526 suspected cases and 223 of them have tested positive for the COVID-19.
A 79-year-old COVID-19 patient in Tirana died today morning. The 79-year-old man with his initials B.H. he had been hospitalized for 18 days. The old man had shown signs of improvement during the past few days, but later died of a sudden heart attack. The 79-year-old man is the 11th COVID-19 victim in Albania. The Ministry of Health extends condolences to the family of the deceased.
A total of 74 patients are currently hospitalized at the infectious diseases hospital. Seven of them are under intensive care and four others are inhaling through breathing tubes. The rest of the hospitalized patients remain in stable conditions. Meanwhile, another patient has been admitted in “Shefqet Ndroqi” University Hospital, the second Covid-19-only patient hospital in the country.
Four patients who previously tested positive for the coronavirus in the past hours bringing the total number of the recovered people to 44 after testing negative for the virus.
Currently, the geographical distribution of the infected patients across Albania has further expanded in Tirana, Fier, Shkodra, Tropoja and Korça, in addition to four more discovered cases where epidemiological investigation is being carried out and where epidemiologists are working intensively on tracing the contacts of the positive cases in a bid to break chain of the infection transmission.
