Albanian Government Council of Ministers

Vlora is the next city where the COVID-19 vaccine inoculations began today, with the health professionals receiving the vaccine first. Accompanied by the Minister of Health and Social Health Ogerta Manastirliu, the Prime Minister Edi Rama closely attended the start of the vaccination rollout at the local vaccination centre opened at the Sports Hall in Vlora, the third city after Tirana and Shkodra to kick off the process.

“We plan to vaccinate around 150 to 2000 doctors and nurses daily, starting with Vlora regional hospital and other municipal hospitals across the country. Preparations are already underway to open a vaccination centre in Gjirokaster too. More than 600 doctors and nurses have received the COVID-19 vaccine over the past two days,” Health Minister said.

The inoculation process at the third vaccination centre was also monitored by Silva Bino, head of the Department of Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control, who has decided to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at this site.

“Today we are in Vlora and the process is set to begin in Fier tomorrow. The vaccine rollout for older adults at nursing homes in Gjirokaster, Elbasan and Korça is also scheduled to start tomorrow. The vaccine acceptance is also great and not a single vaccine dose has been wasted,” Bino said.

A total of 200 health professionals are expected to receive the vaccine today.
