The mass vaccination campaign expanded further today as workers in the urban and intercity transport workers started receiving the COVID-19 jabs at the mass vaccination site at Tirana’s Skanderbeg square after being included in the priority groups for vaccination. A total of 4700 employed and self-employed workers in the public transport who are eligible to vaccination, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu said as she accompanied Prime Minister Edi Rama, who toured the vaccination site and attended the start of the vaccine rollout for the public transport workers.
“Today we started vaccination for this risk group across Albania. The group includes mostly public transport workers, as well as the taxi drivers. The process is being coordinated with the public transport associations, the Directorate of Road Transport Services. Vaccinating this category of essential service workers will help us to consider further relaxing restrictions during the summer tourist season,” Health Minister said, adding that second doses of the coronavirus vaccines are being administered to the elderly.
“More than 250,000 people have received the second dose of the vaccine, while the number of vaccinated people is over 740,000, including the number of doses due to be administered today. We will definitely meet the one-million vaccinations target within June and we will further expand the vaccine eligibility to include younger ages,” Manastirliu said.
