The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted at the UN Summit held in New York from 25-27 September, were presented today during a ceremony in the Hall of Maps in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Over 150 leaders from around the world, including Prime Minister Edi Rama, attended and adopted a new program entitled “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, which consists in a Statement with 17 Objective for Sustainable Development.

The agreed targets aim at eradicating extreme poverty, fight inequality, empowering women and girls, protecting natural resources, improving governance, encouraging sustainable growth and inclusive economy, and concentrating collective efforts to provide equal opportunities to those who need them the most.

This historic program will serve as a starting point for action by the international community and national governments to promote prosperity and welfare for all in the next 15 years.

At the end of the ceremony, attended by Cabinet members, representatives of international organizations, ambassadors, representatives of civil society, private sector, etc., –  United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Program Resident Representative in Albania, Ms. Zineb Touimi-Benjelloun, handed symbolically to Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi the flag of the Sustainable Development Goals.
